New pictures to be posted soon!
Something wonderful happened a few days ago-- Will started sleeping through the night! I try to keep him up until at least 6:30pm, and then he sleeps until 7am. HOORAY!
However, I still continue to wake at 4am. I usually check developments on baby Henry Whitaker, read friends' facebook updates, and then start thinking about "stuff". Such as how I want to raise my children. Of course, this keeps me wide awake. At least I feel it's a productive use of my time. Anyway, here is what I came up with at 4am this morning:
A while ago I made a list of values that guide me in life and that I want to teach my kids, Isabella and Will. Isabella is approaching 5, and it seems to be a turning point for her as she asserts her independence and questions and challenges me on almost everything. I love that. However, I realized that I wanted to clarify values I hope to encourage in my kids, and to teach them deliberately and regularly through example, discussion and experience, so at some point (probably not at 5 years of age) I'll trust they have what they need to make wise decisions and just be good people in general.
so far, my list, in no special order:
1. healthy living - take good care of physical self through good eating, exercise, sleep
2. kindness, compassionate, loving- towards earth and all its beings, including self
3. persistence- valuing the journey, not just the destination, but taking pride in achieving the goal as well
4. embrace diversity- through travel, exposure to all kinds of people and experiences
5. ability to understand feelings in self and to empathize with others
6. leave the smallest possible carbon footprint on earth
7. discover a few things to be passionate about in life
8. independent thinking- questioning everything
9. simple living, non-materialism
10. absolute honesty
Last night, Mike and I calculated that I have pumped and saved over 15 gallons (2000 oz) of extra (in excess of what Will requires) milk! That's amazing, and kind of freaks me out when I picture it. Fortunately, all this milk is being donated to a few local babies through Milkshare, a fantastic group if your baby needs breastmilk or you are producing extra. so far, my list, in no special order:

Today I am bringing Isabella and Will to a "holidays around the world" celebration. I am looking forward to it!

wow, I really admire the things you do Angela. I never knew about the Milkshare. I'll have to check that out, I might be able to donate too.
