I am so proud of my daughter. Today, I had the pleasure of watching her and her classmates exhibit their new knowledge of songs, poems, cultures and most importantly: each other. It gave me great hope for their generation, the future. Several times, I found myself weepy because these beautiful children are receiving an early childhood education that, if all humanity were entitled, may have the ability to end suffering and bring a lasting peace to our planet.

My pride for her goes far beyond the fact that she happily participates in the Pledge of Allegiance, or that I learned she knows how to say "hello, friends" in English, Spanish, French and Arabic, or that she knows that next year is "two-thousand, EIGHT!!!". I am proud of her for having the courage, as all children do, to face constant change and adaptation with interest and excitement. How else would something so small and helpless get to the point at which she is now? The resilience and intelligence of children are powerful forces and can take them so far when they have access to nurturing environments such as that in which Isabella is each day with her Mom and her School.

I am convinced that if we could find a way to adequately share with our fellow adults what we feel when we listen to our children teach us about Peace, we would be the last generation of parents to have to learn that from our children.
